Krank Golf driver technology showing Beta Titanium face, cupped face forging, MET technology, CNC milling, and the three Formula FIRE drivers (PRO, X, XX) built for different swing speeds.

The Engineering Behind Krank’s Three Driver Face Thicknesses

In the first article: The Only Driver Built for Your Swing Speed — Why Face Thickness Matters More Than Most Golfers Realize we explained why Krank Golf builds three different driver face thicknesses: Formula FIRE PRO TOUR, X TOUR, and XX TOUR. The reason is simple. Swing speeds vary dramatically between golfers, and one face thickness cannot optimize performance for everyone.

But behind that concept is a deeper level of engineering.

They are designed with specific materials, precision manufacturing, and face geometry that work together to maximize ball speed, durability, and consistency.”

Understanding the technology behind these drivers helps explain why the three-face system works so well.

The Foundation: Super-Hot Forged Beta Titanium

At the core of every Formula FIRE driver is a Super-Hot Forged Beta Titanium face.

This material is significantly stronger than standard cast titanium used in many drivers. In fact, the Beta Titanium used in Krank drivers is up to four times harder than cast faces.

That strength matters for two reasons:

First, it allows the face to be engineered thinner without sacrificing durability. Thinner faces flex more efficiently at impact, which increases energy transfer and produces faster ball speeds.

Second, the additional strength allows the face to recover quickly after impact. Faster recovery means the face returns to its original position more efficiently, maintaining consistent performance shot after shot.

The result is a face that is both extremely responsive and extremely durable a critical combination when designing drivers built for maximum distance.

Cupped Face Forged Technology

One of the most important elements of Krank driver design is Cupped Face Forged Technology.

Instead of simply attaching a flat face insert to the front of the clubhead, the face is forged in a cupped structure that wraps slightly around the crown, sole, and sides of the head.

This design dramatically improves how the face flexes at impact.

The cupped structure allows the entire hitting area to behave more like a spring, amplifying what golfers often call the trampoline effect.

The benefits are significant:

  • Increased face flexibility
  • Expanded effective sweet spot
  • Faster ball speeds across the face
  • More forgiveness on off-center hits

Even when impact occurs slightly toward the toe or heel, the cupped design helps maintain speed and distance.

For golfers, that means longer and more consistent drives, not just on perfect strikes, but across the entire hitting surface.

Micro CNC Milling and the Spring Effect

Once the face material is forged, it undergoes Micro CNC milling.

CNC milling is a computer-controlled machining process that allows engineers to shape the face with extreme precision. Instead of relying on casting tolerances, the milling process removes material in exact increments to create a highly consistent face profile.

This precision helps enhance what golfers often refer to as the Spring Effect.

When a driver strikes the ball, the face flexes inward and then rebounds outward. That rebound transfers energy into the golf ball, generating ball speed.

The more efficiently that process occurs, the more distance a golfer can achieve.

Micro CNC milling allows Krank engineers to control how the face flexes and rebounds across the hitting surface. The result is:

  • Faster ball speeds
  • More consistent face response
  • Reliable performance across repeated impacts

It’s one of the reasons Krank drivers have developed a reputation for producing explosive distance.

Maximum Energy Transfer (MET) Technology

Face flexibility alone is not enough to produce maximum distance.

That’s where Maximum Energy Transfer (MET) Technology comes in.

Most drivers focus only on making the face flexible. But if the rest of the driver head flexes too much during impact, energy can be lost before it ever reaches the golf ball.

Krank engineers solved this problem by designing the driver body to remain extremely rigid during impact.

This rigidity allows energy to remain concentrated in the face where it can be transferred directly into the ball.

The result is a more efficient energy transfer system that produces:

  • Higher ball speeds
  • Improved spin control
  • Better directional stability
  • More consistent performance across swings

Think of it like a spring mounted on a solid platform. When the platform stays stable, the spring releases its full power.

That is the core principle behind MET Technology.

Bulge and Roll: Controlling Ball Flight

Distance alone isn’t enough. A powerful driver must also produce consistent ball flight.

That’s where Bulge and Roll come into play.

Bulge refers to the horizontal curvature of the driver face. Roll refers to the vertical curvature.

These curvatures are not cosmetic—they are critical to controlling ball flight and correcting off-center hits.

When a golfer strikes the ball toward the toe or heel of the driver, gear effect influences the ball’s spin axis. Bulge is engineered to counteract that gear effect, helping bring the ball back toward the fairway instead of sending it farther offline.

Roll performs a similar function vertically. It helps manage launch conditions when the ball is struck higher or lower on the face.

Together, bulge and roll help maintain:

  • Stable launch conditions
  • Predictable ball flight
  • Reduced side spin on off-center strikes

The result is greater confidence off the tee.

Why Face Thickness Matters

All of this technology works together with one central factor: face thickness.

When the driver strikes the ball, the face flexes. That flex determines how efficiently energy transfers into the golf ball.

But the amount of flex that produces optimal performance depends on swing speed.

Golfers with very high swing speeds generate tremendous force at impact. A face designed for slower swings would flex too much under those conditions.

Golfers with slower swing speeds produce less force at impact. A face designed for tour-level speeds may not flex enough to return maximum energy.

That’s why Krank builds three distinct performance platforms.

Formula FIRE PRO TOUR – Conforming Performance

The FIRE PRO TOUR driver is engineered for golfers who generate significant force at impact.

It conforms to USGA regulations while maximizing energy transfer within those limits. Combined with the forged Beta Titanium face, cupped face design, and precision CNC milling, the PRO TOUR delivers powerful yet controlled ball speed.

This is the driver built for elite swing speeds for players up to and above 250+ yards and players seeking maximum performance within conforming limits.

Formula FIRE X TOUR – High COR Performance

The X TOUR bridges the gap between elite and moderate swing speeds.

It is engineered with a High COR face that increases rebound relative to standard conforming drivers. This allows players in the mid-range swing speed category to unlock additional ball speed and carry distance.

For many golfers, the X TOUR represents the ideal balance of power and control.

Formula FIRE XX TOUR – Super-High COR Distance

The XX TOUR is engineered specifically for golfers with slower swing speeds.

It features a thinner Super-High COR face designed to flex more efficiently at lower impact forces. That increased rebound produces higher ball speed relative to swing speed, translating directly into greater carry distance.

For many players in this range, the XX TOUR unlocks performance that would otherwise be left on the table.

Engineering That Matches Your Swing

Many golf companies design a single driver and attempt to make it work for everyone.

Krank took a different approach.

By combining:

  • Super-Hot Forged Beta Titanium
  • Cupped Face Forged technology
  • Micro CNC milling
  • Maximum Energy Transfer (MET) Technology
  • Precision Bulge and Roll geometry
  • Multiple COR configurations

Krank engineered a driver system designed around how golfers actually swing.

The three-face platform ensures that players at different swing speeds receive the energy transfer, rebound characteristics, and performance profile best suited to their game.

The result is simple.

More efficient energy transfer.
Higher ball speeds.
And the distance gains Krank drivers are known for.

When engineering is matched to swing speed, performance stops being a compromise.

It becomes predictable.
